OPG's Central Hydro Plant Group is offering a Summer Co-op or Developmental employment opportunity for an Electrical Engineering student in our Engineering Department. This position is based in North Bay, Ontario.The Central Hydro Plant Group operates 26 small hydro stations and associated control structures across Central Ontario with service centres located in North Bay, Coniston, Gravenhurst and Campbellford.


Please note, this position is based out of our Central Hydro Plant Group headquarters in North Bay, Ontario.


As the successful candidate you may have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of duties which may include:
  • Assisting to retrieve and reconcile grounding drawings, SLD drawings and drawing sets
  • Assisting in the development of the grounding, short circuit studies, arc-flash oversight program
  • Interfacing with production centre as required to obtain key information for the above
  • Organizing the material above for easy review so informed decisions can be made
  • Providing general assistance to the electrical engineering staff
  • Performing other duties as required

We are searching for an enthusiastic Electrical Engineering student, who has successfully completed a minimum of second year and will be returning to university (full time) upon completion of this work term, or requires one final work term to graduate.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and knowledge:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite, Outlook, Windows XP, Autocad, etc.)
  • Electrical abilities, visual aptitude, and basic proficiency in mathematics
  • Some experience in electrical equipment design
  • Ability to work without close supervision and a willingness to learn
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
