OPG's Central Hydro Plant Group is offering a Summer Co-op or Developmental employment opportunity for a Civil Engineering student in our Engineering Department, based in North Bay, Ontario. Central Hydro Plant Group operates 26 small hydro stations and associated control structures across Central Ontario with service centres located in North Bay, Coniston, Gravenhurst and Campbellford.

As the successful candidate you may have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of duties which may include:
  • Assisting with dam safety inspections in the field and the preparation of reports
  • Providing general assistance to the civil engineering staff in such areas as Dam Safety and Structural Design
  • Assisting with drawing searches

Please note, these activities will involve spending considerable time in the field (more than 20%). This position is based out of our Central Hydro Plant Group headquarters in North Bay, Ontario.
We are searching for an enthusiastic Civil Engineering student, who has successfully completed a minimum of second year and will be returning to university (full time) upon completion of this work term, or requires one final work term to graduate.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and knowledge:
  • Excellent oral and written skills including demonstrated ability to prepare written communications
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite, Outlook, Windows XP, Autocad)

Additional qualifications that will be considered an asset:
  • Academic courses on concrete and steel structures, geotechnical, hydraulic engineering and probability theory and knowledge of database design
  • Experience using AutoCad
